Visio Standard vs Visio Professional — which do I need?
Standard covers the diagramming most people actually do: flowcharts, organizational charts, basic network diagrams, floor plans, timelines, and swimlanes. If that’s your work, Standard saves you $10 over Pro. Choose Pro if you need: BPMN 2.0 process modeling, UML 2.5 software architecture (class, sequence, state, deployment diagrams), AWS/Azure/Cisco cloud and network stencils, database/ERD modeling with crow’s foot notation, advanced validation rules, or real-time co-authoring via Visio for the web. For org charts, project flowcharts, and basic network maps—Standard is the right tier.
Will my key activate on the first try?

The one caveat: if a Pro user adds BPMN 2.0, UML 2.5, or AWS/Azure shapes to the file, Standard will display those shapes (so the diagram looks correct), but you won’t be able to edit them with the same Pro-only stencil tools. For pure flowcharts, org charts, and basic network diagrams, full bidirectional compatibility—edit and save freely.

No — Microsoft Visio Standard 2024 is Windows only. There is no Mac version of Visio 2024. Windows 10 or Windows 11 (64-bit) required.
